Welcome to Green Spain

North of Spain Guide

Welcome to the northern Spain guide. My guide to green Spain which in my opinion is one of the best and most undiscovered regions in Europe.

Although green Spain runs from the Basque Country to Galicia most of this guide will be focused on the 2 regions in the middle part of green Spain , Asturias and Cantabria. They are the regions that I personally have spent the most time and places which offer outstanding beauty.

The name green Spain originates from the the regions lush green pastures and dense thriving forests not to dissimilar to what you could find in Britain or Ireland. While this is caused by a larger annual rainfall compared to other regions of Spain it also means a more balanced climate with a consistent warm spring and summer and a more temperate autumn and winter.

With average temperatures closer to 25 degrees Celsius in summer it is not a surprise many Spanish people from the south of spain decide escape the intense summer sun in the by spending their holidays in the north of Spain.

The aim of the guide is not to just talk about the weather but to inform you all about Asturias and Cantabria , from practical information like how to to get there to more local insider knowledge like where are the best places to eat or which are the nicest beaches to visit.

If you are planning a visit we also offer self catering holidays rentals in Asturias and Cantabria at affordable prices.

Above all I hope you like the guide and it either inspires you to visit northern Spain or if you have already booked your trip it  helps you get the most out of your visit.
